Abstract

Online learning has emerged as a significant mode of education in higher education, offering flexibility, accessibility, and diverse learning opportunities. However, its effectiveness in promoting student engagement remains a matter of concern, as engagement in virtual environments depends largely on factors such as technology, self-motivation, and effective communication. This study aims to examine the impact of online learning on student engagement by analysing both its benefits and challenges. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from students, and responses were analysed using basic statistical tools, graphs, and charts. The findings reveal that while online learning enhances accessibility and provides opportunities for interactive learning, challenges such as poor internet connectivity, reduced social interaction, and distractions significantly affect participation and focus. The study concludes by suggesting strategies to improve student involvement in digital learning environments, thereby ensuring more effective engagement and better learning outcomes in higher education.
