The development of WordPress themes from traditional PHP-based themes to contemporary block-based themes enabled by Full Site Editing (FSE) is thoroughly reviewed in this paper. Architectural distinctions, performance, developer requirements, customisation flexibility, and suitability for different use cases are the main topics of the comparative analysis. The advantages and difficulties of each paradigm are examined, emphasising the continuous trend towards block-based themes that improve user experience and democratise design. In order to present a contemporary viewpoint on WordPress theme development and its consequences for developers, designers, and end users, this study compiles findings from a variety of research sources and reputable reviews.
