Abstract

The Indian e-commerce industry has grown significantly over the past decade, supported by the rapid adoption of digital payment systems and strengthened logistics infrastructure. Within this competitive market, Flipkart and Amazon have emerged as the dominant players, offering a wide variety of products across categories. Among these, electrical appliances stand out as a high-value segment, where purchase decisions are influenced not only by product cost but also by factors such as delivery timelines, installation services, return policies, and after-sales support.
Market analysts project India’s e-commerce gross merchandise value (GMV) to exceed $65.7 billion in 2025 and to reach nearly $200 billion by 2026, driven by rising internet usage in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Consumer electronics and appliances are among the fastest-growing categories, supported by flexible financing options, exchange schemes, and aggressive festive promotions. Flipkart and Amazon leverage competitive advantages through their logistics networks and loyalty programs—Amazon with Prime and Flipkart with Plus and Ekart—to expand reach and improve customer engagement.
Despite these strengths, limited empirical evidence exists comparing Flipkart and Amazon specifically in the context of electrical appliances. Most prior studies group appliances with general electronics, overlooking the unique challenges and consumer expectations of this segment. This study addresses the gap by conducting a comparative analysis of the two platforms in terms of pricing, delivery efficiency, warranty and return services, and customer satisfaction, thereby offering meaningful insights for both consumers and sellers in the Indian e-commerce ecosystem.
