Abstract

Play-Based Therapy Intervention is an umbrella term encompassing various play therapy techniques and play therapy approaches. It is also an effective strategy that promotes cognitive development, reduces anxiety and stress, and increases confidence, enabling children to explore their problems, find solutions, and manage their emotions effectively. This study utilized a systematic review of related literature on the role of play-based therapy interventions in the social and emotional growth of children, specifically those experiencing neurodevelopmental disorders. A literature review was performed using ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis online, Google Scholar, and Springer to evaluate play-based therapy interventions, social and emotional growth, and children experiencing neurodevelopmental disorders. Nowadays, numerous approaches and techniques can help us understand the role of play-based therapy interventions in supporting children's social and emotional growth. Regarding social and emotional growth, children experiencing neurodevelopmental disorders hinder their development. This review confirms that play-based therapy supports children’s holistic development, emotionally, socially, and cognitively, through diverse, adaptable methods that engage families and educators alike. In studies, child-centered, parent-guided, and structured cognitive-behavioral and psychomotor approaches consistently facilitate gains in social communication, emotional control, empathy, and adaptive functioning across studies.
