Abstract

Artificial intelligence represents a pivotal development in various pharmaceutical disciplines, including drug discovery, formulation development, polypharmacology, and hospital pharmacy. In the realms of drug discovery and formulation development, the utilization of Artificial Neural Networks, such as Deep Neural Networks and Recurrent Neural Networks, has been pivotal. Recent research has elucidated the efficacy of artificial intelligence in quantitative structure-property relationships and quantitative structure-activity relationships in drug discovery. De novo design facilitates the creation of novel drug molecules with optimal characteristics. This review article delineates the applications of artificial intelligence in the pharmacy domain, with a focus on drug discovery, formulation development, polypharmacology, and hospital pharmacy. Current trends in artificial intelligence within pharmacy comprise Process Analytical Technology, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and pharmaceutical automation in research and development, providing comprehensive insights into existing techniques in healthcare, such as inhaler design, drug absorption, and dissolution. The integration of artificial intelligence and robotics presents both benefits and drawbacks.
