The integration of Artificial Intelligence into legal practice is rapidly evolving, yet its application within specific jurisdictions like India remains underexplored. This sur- vey systematically reviews recent advancements in legal AI, including Legal Judgment Prediction (LJP), automated document summarization, and named entity recognition, highlighting their limitations when applied to the Indian context. These limitations include a reliance on Western legal corpora, an inability to handle the nuances of In- dian legal language, and a narrow scope that prevents end-to-end case analysis. To address these challenges, we introduce Kanoonu AI, an intelligent legal assistant frame- work. By harnessing fine-tuned Large Language Models (LLMs) and specialized NLP pipelines built specifically for Indian legal texts, Kanoonu AI automates the intricate task of mapping case facts to applicable legal provisions within the IPC, CrPC, and other statutes, offering a powerful tool for legal professionals and scholars.
