How to Choose a Journal for Your Research Paper
Choosing where to submit is one of the most important decisions an author makes, and it is often rushed. A poor match costs weeks in rejection and resubmission. This guide gives you a checklist you can apply to any journal, including IJSCI, so that you choose on evidence and not on advertising.
Start with fit, not price
Read the journal’s aims and scope and compare them with your paper’s question, method and audience. A strong paper in the wrong journal is still a poor submission. Look at recent issues and ask whether papers like yours appear there, in subject, depth and type.
IJSCI describes itself as a multidisciplinary journal covering science, engineering, technology and computer science. Check the current Aims & Scope and the list of manuscript types before you decide.
A journal selection checklist
| Question | What to look for | Where to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Your topic and article type are named or clearly implied | Aims & Scope page; recent issues |
| Identity | A real ISSN, a named publisher or institution and working contact details | ISSN portal; the journal’s contact page |
| Peer review | A stated process with roles for editors and reviewers | Peer review and editorial policy pages |
| Fees | Amounts and timing stated in plain terms before you submit | Article processing charges page |
| Indexing | Claims you can confirm in the named database itself | The database’s own search, not a logo on the journal site |
| Editorial board | Named editors with verifiable affiliations | Institutional pages, ORCID or Google Scholar profiles |
| Licence | A clear open access and copyright statement | Open access and copyright pages |
Take the same checklist to every journal on your shortlist and score them side by side.
Verify indexing and status claims yourself
A logo on a homepage is not proof. If your department, funder or employer requires a particular database or list, confirm the journal’s status directly in that source, and check the date, because lists and requirements change.
For IJSCI, you can check the ISSN (3049-0251) on the ISSN portal and the DOI prefix (10.70849/ijsci) through Crossref. Read the journal’s own statement on the abstracting and indexing page and treat it as a starting point for your own check.
Warning signs to watch for
- Guarantees of acceptance or promises that review is a formality.
- Fees requested before any editorial decision, or amounts that change after you submit.
- No named editors, or editors who cannot be found elsewhere.
- Impact-factor or approval claims with no source you can verify.
- Aggressive unsolicited invitations that ignore your field.
- No working email or a contact page that only offers a form.
One warning sign is a reason to ask questions. Several together are a reason to look elsewhere.
Where IJSCI may suit your paper
IJSCI is an open-access journal for science and engineering research. Its fees are stated publicly (₹499 without DOI or ₹699 with DOI for Indian authors, and $20 with DOI for international authors, per accepted article) and are paid after acceptance. Read the full peer review policy and the author guidelines before you decide, and ask the editorial office anything that is unclear.
A simple decision process
- List three to five journals whose scope matches your paper.
- Apply the checklist above to each and note what you cannot verify.
- Check your institution’s or funder’s requirements for publication venues.
- Choose the journal you can verify best and whose scope fits.
- Prepare the manuscript to that journal’s template and guidelines.
Frequently asked questions
How many journals should I compare before submitting?
Three to five is usually enough. Compare scope, peer review, fees and verifiable indexing, then choose the best match.
Is a low publication fee a sign of poor quality?
No. A fee alone says little about quality. Judge a journal by its review process, transparency, named editors and claims you can verify.
Should I check my institution’s requirements first?
Yes. Requirements for publication venues vary and change, so confirm what your institution or funder accepts before you submit.
When does IJSCI charge its publication fee?
IJSCI states that the publication fee is paid after acceptance. Follow the instructions sent for your manuscript.
