Low Cost Research Paper Publication in India: What You Will Really Pay
A low headline fee is only part of the cost of publishing. Authors in India often find that the journal fee is one line in a longer list. This guide shows what the total cost of publication can include, what to confirm before you pay, and where IJSCI’s fees fit.
The parts of the total cost
| Cost item | Who sets it | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Publication fee (APC) | The journal | Amount, DOI inclusion and when it is due |
| DOI or other add-ons | The journal | Is it included or separate? |
| Language editing | You or a service you choose | Do you need it before submission? |
| Similarity check | You or your institution | Is a check available to you before you submit? |
| Permissions for figures or data | Third parties | Are you reusing anything that needs permission? |
| Payment or bank charges | Your bank or payment method | Is there a transfer fee? |
Only the first two lines are decided by the journal. Ask the journal about every other item that it may add, and never assume that something is free or included.
A worked example
Suppose two journals look like this. The figures are illustrative, not real journals.
| Journal A | Journal B | |
|---|---|---|
| Headline fee | ₹499 | ₹300 |
| DOI | Included in the fee | ₹500 extra |
| Certificate or confirmation | Included | ₹200 extra |
| Total for a paper with DOI | ₹499 | ₹1,000 |
The journal with the lowest headline fee is not always the lowest total cost. Compare like for like.
What IJSCI charges
IJSCI’s fees are per accepted article: ₹499 without DOI or ₹699 with DOI for Indian authors, and $20 with DOI for international authors. They are paid after acceptance. See the article processing charges page for the current details.
The international fee is set in US dollars, so do not treat it as a fixed rupee amount.
Before you pay anything
- Confirm that your paper has been accepted and that the payment request matches IJSCI’s official instructions.
- Check that the option you chose, with or without DOI, matches your need.
- Keep your paper ID, transaction reference and receipt.
- Ask for a receipt in an institutional name if you need one.
- Contact editor@ijsci.com with your paper ID if anything looks inconsistent.
Low cost is not the same as low quality, or high quality
A low fee tells you the price, not the standard of review. Judge a journal on its process, transparency and claims you can verify. Our guide on telling a low cost journal from a questionable one explains how.
