Research Paper Publication Process and Timeline
Knowing what happens after you click submit reduces anxiety and avoids avoidable delay. This page describes the usual stages of a peer-reviewed journal process, what you do at each stage and where time is typically spent. Exact durations depend on the paper, so this guide does not promise a fixed schedule.
The stages of publication
| Stage | What happens | Your role |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Submission | You upload the manuscript and author details | Submit a complete, correctly formatted paper |
| 2. Editorial check | The editor checks scope, format and originality | Fix any issues quickly |
| 3. Peer review | Reviewers assess the paper | Wait, and keep your contact details current |
| 4. Decision | Accept, revise or reject | Read the comments carefully |
| 5. Revision | You revise and resubmit with a response | Answer every comment and meet the deadline |
| 6. Acceptance | The editor confirms acceptance and gives next steps | Follow the instructions sent to you |
| 7. Payment and forms | You pay the publication fee and return required forms | Complete both promptly |
| 8. Publication | The article is made available in an issue online | Check the final page and DOI |
The journal’s own publication process page is the authority for IJSCI. This table is a general guide.
Where time is usually spent
- Peer review, because it depends on reviewers’ availability.
- Revisions, because they depend on how quickly authors reply.
- Post-acceptance steps, because payment and forms depend on the author.
- Issue scheduling, because IJSCI publishes monthly.
Timelines for review vary with the paper and are not fixed. Ask the editorial office for a realistic estimate for your manuscript.
Keep track of your paper
After you submit, you receive a paper ID. Keep it, and use the paper status page to follow progress. If you do not hear anything, check your spam folder first, then email editor@ijsci.com with your paper ID and the title.
What authors can do at each stage
- Before submission: check scope, format and originality.
- After submission: do not resubmit duplicates; wait for the editorial check.
- During review: respond to any editor email promptly.
- After a decision: read the comments carefully and plan your response.
- After acceptance: pay and return the forms in one go, following the official instructions.
Fees and publication
Publication fees are per accepted article: ₹499 without DOI or ₹699 with DOI for Indian authors, and $20 with DOI for international authors. They are paid after acceptance, not before. See the charges page for details.
